Medico-Legal Assessment

Clinical neuropsychology assessments can be used in medico-legal cases to determine decision-making capacity and in identifying possible insurance recovery.

The neuropsychology team at Jurmaine Health provides medico-legal assessments and court reports. We work with numerous organisations in various settings including Magistrate’s Court, Department of Human Services, Victorian Correctional centres, Immigration Detention and private solicitors for criminal, family and personal injury proceedings.

Our clinical neuropsychologists have advanced skills in investigating and understanding the cognitive, emotional and behavioural effects of the brain. We evaluate and treat people with a variety of disorders where the client may be experiencing difficulties with memory, mood, attention, language, reading, problem solving and decision-making.

We evaluate how each individual’s brain functions. At Jurmaine Health, our neuropsychology assessments consist of an interview that outlines the client’s history, the daily routines and performance of the client, as well as any particular areas of concern. The interview is then followed by a range of tests appropriate to the clients requirements.

Testing involves standardised tests that evaluate cognitive function in the following areas:

  • Cognitive ability
  • Memory
  • Reasoning
  • Problem Solving
  • Emotions
  • Personality

Following assessment and interpretation of results, if needed, our clinical neuropsychologist can develop treatment plans, and use the results as a baseline to determine changes over time.
